Build Tutorial
We’ve improved the kit with fewer parts and easier instructions. LEGO Quick Kit 1.0
Phase 1: Base & Axle Setup (00:54 - 01:30)
- Insert 2 black pegs into the two outer holes of the 3-hole LEGO beam (00:54).
- Attach the 3-hole beam to the front center edge of the yellow baseplate (01:02).
- Insert the axle vertically into the middle hole of the 3-hole beam (01:08).
- Slide 1 spacer down the axle until it sits on top of the 3-hole beam (01:13).
- Slide the wheel onto the axle with the concave side of the rim facing down (01:17).
- Slide the second spacer onto the axle on top of the wheel (01:25).
Phase 2: Frame & Motor Assembly (01:40 - 02:40)
- Take the 5x7 frame and insert 2 black pegs into the top mounting holes (02:00).
- Insert 3 black pegs into the bottom mounting holes of the frame (02:12).
- Attach the top 2 pegs of the 5x7 frame into the side mount of the large LEGO Technic motor (02:21).
- Lower the motor and frame assembly onto the baseplate, inserting the top of the vertical axle into the center drive hole of the motor, while pressing the bottom 3 pegs of the frame into the yellow baseplate (02:31).
Phase 3: Mounting to the OXO Turntable (02:56 - 04:38)
- Using a heavy-duty hole punch, punch two holes into the plastic outer rim/lip of the OXO turntable, spaced approximately 2 to 2.5 inches apart (slightly wider than the bottom corner holes of the 5x7 frame) (02:58).
- Feed two zip ties through the punched holes from the inside of the turntable lip outward so that the heads are trapped behind the rim (03:28).
- Thread the zip tie tails through the two bottom corner holes of the 5x7 LEGO frame (03:48).
- Connect a second pair of zip ties onto the extending tails of the first zip ties to lock them in place, pulling the motor tight against the edge of the turntable (04:05 - 04:25).
Phase 4: Powering the Motor (04:41 - 06:19)
- Plug the LEGO motor cable into the 3D-printed 2-wire adapter (05:30).
- Connect alligator clip leads from an adjustable DC power supply to the two bare wire ends of the adapter (05:45).
- Turn on the power supply (set to approximately 5.3V or adjusted as needed) to run the motor and control the turntable rotation speed for experiments (06:00 - 06:18).
